The New Mentor

The old mentor is dead. The gate he kept is open.

The old model of learning entrepreneurship ran on permission. You needed the warm intro to the investor. The incubator’s blessing. A mentor who’d let you watch him think — if you were lucky, if you fit, if you were his type. The relationships were the moat, and somebody else always held the bridge.

Now a founder researches any investor’s portfolio herself, finds the email, sends the deck. She asks AI which incubator actually serves her — and walks away from the one that doesn’t. The gatekeepers are still standing at their gates, confused, because the wall around them quietly came down.

You can’t gatekeep a relationship the founder can now build herself.

The teaching changed too. It’s not a lecture anymore — it’s watching the prompt happen, the creation happen, live, at whatever hour your courage shows up. The old mentor was a person with a calendar and a favorites list. The scarce thing now isn’t access. It’s taste. Judgment. The quality of the questions you bring.

The old mentor is dead. Long live the new one — the one that works at 3am, holds your context for as long as you give it, and doesn’t need you to be its type. All the power is in the founder’s hands now. My job is teaching her to use it.
