i photographed Kami Sid — pakistan’s first transgender model — for a campaign no magazine had commissioned and most of the industry pretended not to see. silver, kohl, a painted backdrop, one lamp on a lawn. she chose every frame. it ran anyway, and it travelled further than anything i had shot before.
