CHAPTER 06 · THE CURRICULUM · WITH UNFPA

Ten Lessons, In Sindhi.

WHY WE STARTED THIS

Raaji knew how to talk about periods. She didn't yet know how to talk about consent, contraception, pregnancy at fourteen, or what a girl can legally refuse. Ten conversations, in Sindhi, reviewed by UNFPA, was how we gave her the rest of the syllabus — and gave fifty champions the authority to teach it.

March to May 2022, with the School of Leadership and reviewed by UNFPA: ten digital conversations on sexual and reproductive health and rights, written in Sindhi with text and pictures, delivered through Raaji. Fifty women and girls in Kambar Shahdadkot trained as digital champions to carry them; whatsapp groups to keep them going; a target of 500 listening parties by the end of May. Funded alongside the Government of Canada and SRSO.

Earlier: Mera Pehla Mahwari — "my first period" — the 2020 Karachi campaign with UNFPA, Santex and The Garage School, building toward 3,000 students in 60 schools.
